The 14-month time frame for 50,000 apps is second only to Apple's iOS, which hit 50,000 published apps in 12 months, according to a report from All About Windows Phone, a website that tracks Windows Phone apps and hosts a Windows Phone app directory as well. Google's Android reached 50,000 apps published in its Anroid Market in 19 months, the report said. For its part, Microsoft declined to comment on the report, neither confirming nor denying that it has passed the 50,000 mark. KARACHI: The Karachi stock market continued observed a firm trading session Wednesday led by buying in oil, banks and energy stocks on strong valuations. The Karachi Stock Exchange (KSE) 100-share index gained 41.21 points or 0.36 percent to close at 11,352.59 points as compared to 11,311.38 points of the previous session. The KSE 30-share index was up by 12.60 points to close at 10,288.20 points as compared with 10,275.60 points. Analysts said amid thin trading due to absence of foreign investors, the market remained bullish ahead of the year-end close. The market turnover increased 135.15 percent to 46.02 million shares after opening at 19.57 million shares. The overall market capitalisation went up by 0.37 percent and traded Rs 2.945 trillion as against Rs 2.934 trillion. (Dawn) KARACHI: The leader of the Chinese hockey team Li Gaochao described his team memorable and extended an invitation to Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) to send their national team for a Test series in April 2012. “Our team learnt a great deal during the four-match Test series with Pakistan and we are going back satisfied,” he said at Quaid-e-Azam International airport prior to their departure for Beijing after a week long-trip to Pakistan on Monday night. “Pakistan is among the top teams and has some skilled players of the world and his youngsters raised their game by playing alongside them,” Gaochao, who is also the Vice President of China Hockey Federation said. China is the first hockey team to visit in seven years which signaled the return of international sporting activities in Pakistan. More than 200,000 people are expected to attend and hear speeches of PTI leaders including the chairman Imran Khan, who has already arrived at the venue along with other leaders such as Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Javed Hashmi. Also present was musician Salman Ahmed who played Pakistan’s National Anthem and the famous  “Jazba Junoon” . Earlier, musician Abrarul Haq recited a naat, which was then followed by speeches from leaders Samson Sharaf, Aslam Rajput, Dr Hasan Raza and Azam Swati. More leaders are also expected to address the growing crowds. PTI flags were visible throughout the venue and the main area has been divided into four sections, with one section for women, another for families, the third for youth and the fourth for the general public.
